What is this?

Welcome to Brawl of Cthulhu, where I discuss all of the monsters from the role-playing game, Call of Cthulhu, with a focus on encounters and combat, not only in the RPG, but in hypothetical films and video games as well. I've updated everything with the latest information from the 7e Malleus Monstrorum, including changes that have been made between editions.

I've added tags to each entry to make finding what you're after easier. For instance, are you looking for a monster that your PCs can easily outrun? Just click the "Slow" tag. In case they're not obvious, here's a quick summary of what the tags mean:
  • 6e: Can only be found in the 6th edition Malleus Monstrorum.
  • Burrows: Burrows under the ground.
  • Can Fly: Has the ability to fly.
  • Clumsy: Has sub-human DEX.
  • Dextrous: Has super-human DEX.
  • Fast: Has a Move speed of 10+.
  • High CON: Has super-human CON.
  • Human-ranged: All six stats are below 100.
  • Hypnotic: Has the ability to hypnotize or mesmerize.
  • Intangible: Doesn't have a physical form.
  • Intelligent: Has super-human intelligence.
  • Interdimensional: Can travel between dimensions.
  • Invisibility: Can turn invisible.
  • Low CON: Has sub-human CON.
  • New: Is a new addition to Call of Cthulhu.
  • Possessor: Can possess a human body.
  • POWerful: Has super-human POW.
  • Regenerates: Regenerates hit-points per round in combat.
  • Reworked/Renamed: An existing monster that was renamed or reworked into a new one.
  • Slow: Has a Move speed of 6 or less.
  • Small: Smaller than an adult human.
  • Strong: Has super-human STR.
  • Swims: Is at home in the water.
  • Unintelligent: Possesses sub-human intelligence—possibly animalistic.
  • Weak: Has sub-human STR.
  • Weak-willed: Has sub-human POW.
There is such a wide range of SIZ for monsters that having a single "Large" tag didn't work, so I've split them up into tiers as follows:
  • Large
  • X Large
  • XX Large
  • XXX Large
  • Huge
  • Massive
  • Gargantuan
Lastly, if you're reading this, I hope you find something of interest here, and feel free to comment. Enjoy!
